Description
Global warming, childhood obesity and diabetes, a national life expectancy for the first time falls short of that of that generation that preceded it, degradation of rural communities, and destruction of our country's soil and water sources are all part and parcel of a broken food system. Our meals travel an average of 1,500 miles from farm to table and contain scarce nutritional value one they arrive. People don't know where there [sic] food comes from. At great expense to human health and the environment, we remain increasingly disconnected from that which gives us sustenance. FarmStory.org is an interactive website set up to increase the conversation around and support for healthy, vibrant and local food systems. The site is piloted by a group of writers, farmers, food and farmer educators, and activists who believe that information sharing is the key to positive change. Through storytelling, public forums, podcasts, brief documentary videos, photography, blogs and journals, resource listings and "how to" article for farmers and community leaders, FarmStory.org will provide both the tools and the forum for that change. The website (FarmStory.org) provides the vehicle as well as a practical demonstration of these tools while the FarmStory.org Publication Plan offers a more in-depth description of the project as well as goals and strategies for continuing the site in perpetuity.
