"This thesis paper uses the methodology of qualitative heuristic study to delineate and record the events and movements of a particular period of the artist's own life and, concurrently, a study of her growing understanding and awareness of the concepts and applications of art expression and energy healing. The Practice section is broken down into chapters reflecting the years of 2004 through 2013 while living on (and away from) a rural property called Paul Rose Road. Within these chapters the artist recalls significant life events, specifically noting the geographical moves from place to place; within the context of partnership, family stories, and her own strivings for personal growth. Interwoven with the candid narrative pieces are aspects from her life that her father exposed her to - the experiences of fine art, nature, animals, and family. Through the expressive medium of memoir collage, the artist chooses to integrate - or release - the embedded concepts and beliefs of what she understood as her story, of a place called home, into a new personal faith. She does this by incorporating her growing knowledge and methods of energetic healing that is inherent in tai chi movement, art-making processes, the experience of nature, relationships with animals, and the support of her own local community. These various mosaic pieces work together to expose how memory shifts, how story and art vignettes relate, spark, and oppose each other. By juxtaposing the narrative writing with art, journal excerpts, photos, dreams, and quotations from other sources - and the scientific research on the various forms of healing and art histories - the reader is left with a unique pattern of awareness that translates and interacts with their own life; encouraging personal exploration and transformation through the vehicle of self-discovery."--leaf 3.
