Ann Eliza Young was one of the many wives of Brigham Young, the 2nd president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She divorced Young in 1873. Her writings express the neglect, cruel treatment, desertion, privation, and violence that were part of her experiences with the Mormon lifestyle. She became an outspoken advocate for women's rights in 19th century America and an ardent and campaigning opponent of polygamous marriage.
